What to Expect at Before Your Procedure
The thought of having a surgical procedure can be daunting. You might not know what to expect, what questions to ask, or how to prepare. The team at Premier Surgical Surgery Center here in Knoxville, TN, want to help guide you through the process to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
- Book a Consultation:
Booking a consultation with a Premier Surgical Surgeon is the first step in having a procedure performed at Premier Surgical Surgery Center. You may schedule an appointment with a specific Premier physician by calling their office directly or online via APPOINTMENT REQUEST. For a list of Premier Surgical Knoxville offices and phone numbers visit LOCATIONS.
Your pre-surgery appointment will take place at your individual surgeon’s office. Premier’s Knoxville surgeons have offices located on or near the campuses of Parkwest, Fort Sanders Regional, Tennova Turkey Creek, and Tennova North Medical Centers.
- Paperwork and Registration
A few days before your appointment with your surgeon, you’ll receive a text or email asking you to complete your medical history and insurance paperwork online. This paperwork helps us understand your medical history, your current health status, and your insurance coverage. If you are unable to complete the paperwork online, you may fill it out when you arrive at the office.
- Consultation with the Surgeon
When you meet with your surgeon, he or she will review your medical history, perform a physical exam, and discuss your treatment options. Your surgeon will determine if you’re a candidate for outpatient surgery at Premier Surgical Surgery Center. Candidacy depends on your overall health, your medical history, and the type of procedure you’re undergoing. Your surgeon will also answer any questions you have and address any concerns you may have.
- Scheduling
Once you’ve completed your consultation, the surgeon’s office staff will work with you to schedule your procedure at Premier Surgical Surgery Center. The Center is conveniently located off exit 383 at 6408 Papermill Drive in Knoxville.
- Billing and Payment
Before your surgery date, the Premier Surgical Billing Office will contact you with a good faith estimate for the total cost of your procedure. The estimate is based on your insurance coverage, deductible, co-pay or co-insurance. Self-pay and financing options are available for patients who don’t have health insurance. Payment is due 7 days before your surgery.
- Pre-Operative Instructions
Two days before your surgery, the Premier Surgery Center staff will call you with detailed pre-admission instructions. This will include a pre-anesthesia questionnaire and pre-operative instructions such as dietary restrictions, medication guidelines, and activity limitations. You’ll also receive information about what to expect on the day of your surgery, including how to prepare for your procedure and what to bring with you. Remember, it is required that you have an adult with you that can drive you home after your procedure.
- Surgery Day
On your surgery day, you’ll arrive at the Premier Surgical Surgery Center on Papermill Drive in Knoxville. After checking in at the front desk, you’ll be escorted to the Surgery Center waiting room. A nurse will take you to the pre-opt area to evaluate your vital signs and prepare you for surgery.
The Surgery Center staff will keep your family updated on your progress as you move from the Pre-Op Area into the Operating Room. After your procedure is complete, your surgeon will meet with your family while you recover. You can expect to be in the Recovery Area one to one and a half hours.
When you’re discharged, the staff will give you and your family post-op instructions that will help you continue your recovery at home. It’s important that you carefully follow all post-op instructions.
In the next couple of days, you’ll receive follow-up phone calls from Surgery Center staff and from your surgeon’s office. You’ll return to your surgeon’s office in 2 weeks for a post-surgery appointment to ensure that you are healing and recovering appropriately. .
